You want a program that has everything you need in front. You should be able to get to anywhere inside the program from hitting one button or switch. Old programs and beat machines had sub menus that you had to click on to reach editing and mixing functions (Korg Triton) that takes a lot time and may frustrate you.
We spoke a few times including twice on the One Accord Deejay Alliance conference call and I followed up with him via email. I sent him a few questions I wanted to get his take on and he filled out his answers and sent them back, below is our online conversation...... enjoy!
Load up a patch, any patch, that comes with your software or hardware. Your basic patch will most likely be just 8 sounds - 1-2 bass drums, 2-3 toms, and the rest will be snares, hi-hats, claps, or some variation. There might even be a cowbell. Hit your bass drum key at the beginning of each measure, or every four beats. Get a sense for the rhythm. Now hit it every beat, 4 times per measure - it's starting to sound like something! Now try alternating every other beat with a tom, snare, or hi-hat instead.
The bad part is that users with slower PC's may have latency issues while recording. However any off beats or mistake are quick and easy to fix with a mouse click and drag. There is also a quick start guide and complete video tutorials that has even beginners making hit tracks right out of the gate. One big Thing that is included with the software that I have never seen before. The Company actually will help new up coming artist to sell beats show cased on there site. OK. I figured that this program was going to cost big bucks right? No. It cost very little.

Make sure that your beat maker provides you more than one bar to create loops. The whole point of making a loop is to have several instruments playing together in a particular pattern and not just one instrument. Check that your beat maker has 16 - 32 bars.
Face it, most everybody likes trance, especially at clubs and parties. This gives you another opportunity to DJ. Local venues love to hire out local artists with self produced music for parties and events. You can really have a lot of fun with this and there is the potential to make a lot of dough at it too. It's the best of both worlds!
